Project Accomplishments
Relocation & Restoration of 1882 Bowstring Bridge
Restored and relocated the 1882 Bowstring Bridge back to the banks of the Black Warrior River in order to preserve the last and oldest remaining span that crossed the river at Northport/Tuscaloosa.
One Mile Garden
This project consists of an index garden that acts as a hub for project activities, satellite gardens for individual residents, and an edible townscape to be installed throughout the city of York. The project shares knowledge among Sumter County residents about natural resources, small scale food production, environmental issues, and individual and community gardening practices.
Fayette County SKY CAM & Weather Station Project
The SKY CAM is connected and made available to local television stations to be used in storm warning and up to date information during severe weather conditions. The camera controls allow for 360 degree coverage of the local skies and allow meteorologists to provide current video and weather data directly from Fayette. The project also provides real life learning opportunities for students to record and analyze weather data.
Creating Bibb County Auntie Litters
Encourages responsible environmental behaviors by youth that will result in a clean, well preserved natural environment. A local educator, Pat Cottingham was trained by the Auntie Litter Executive Director to deliver the program locally.
Brent Elementary Playground Improvement Plan
Constructed a walking track for elementary school students to use to help with physical education, and is also available to the community.
Stewart Community Walking Track
Constructed a walking track around the Steward Community Activity Center to give area residents a safe a welcoming place to exercise.
Fayette Railroad Museum Phase II
A railroad caboose was restored and placed at the Fayette Museum. This will be a part of preserving the history of Fayette County, and will benefit the community and future generations, and educate the citizens about Fayette county’s past.
